When should bullfrog tad have land?

jusmebabe Sep 05, 2006 08:21 PM

I bought a N. American bullfrog tadpole with all 4 legs and about 2" of it's tail.

I have it in a 10 gal filled about 50%. There's a floating island (suction cups) on the side. When should I reduce the water? I own many herps but haven't had a tadpole in a long while.
Thanx for any help.
Joel

once the tail begins to shrink a dry place to leave the water should be provided. a 10 gal filled with 4-6" of water is fine for a young froglet but when it starts to grow you will need a much larger tank.

It actually swam up on the floating island and then jumped/swam back into the water.
I feel good now and added some fake floating plants just in case.
As for larger housing I have tanks of all sizes laying around so I have that covered. Thanx for your input.

I raised a pair of bullfrog tadpoles and I feel they really need a pond or an extremely large tank. I started them in a 10gal tank and later got a 20gal long and 40gal. But they get huge and are very shy and skittish. They like to hide and will jump like crazy when startled and can really injure themselves even in a large tank. I ended up giving mine to an older gentleman who built a large pond in his backyard.
