New Bearded

jmzd4 Sep 06, 2006 08:54 AM

I just got a new BD from the local reptile show. He's a Snow X Sandfire and tame as can be. Must be about 10" in length with tale, so he's just a baby. Got him in a 20g long with UV heat lamp, basking rock, branch. Been spraying him down twice a day

I got him on Sunday and he has been eating like a horse. I'v been giving him fresh grees and cickets, and let me tell you he loves crickets. I have been switching him over to Rep-cal juvenile food. I'm kind of worried that he might be constipated or blocked. Since I just got him, I'm a little worried. My question is: How often do they deficate?

Bearded dragon pellets are only about 10% water compared to the 60% or more of insects and 80% of greens. Too many pellets can deffinitely lead to dehydration and constipation. It is best to feed pellets more as a 'topping' for his salads, than his complete diet. Make sure your dragon, especially babies, get alot of water, either via a small shadow dish (you can drop water droplets into the dish to get the dragon's attention and encourage it to come drink), misting the side of the cage (not heavily) or soaking your dragon a couple times a week in luke warm water.

I'm no beardie expert, although I do take care of them for work (I work at a Petco). I've noticed that ours don't poop very often, only about twice a week. However, ours don't get fed nearly as well as they should - their diet is pretty much just crickets and mealworms.
Hope that helped some.

but what I really want is more ball pythons!
