Size of a yearling?

bdwilliams Sep 06, 2006 10:04 AM

I've had my black rat snake for a little over a year. I was just wondering how long/big most year old rat snakes are? He seems happy and healthy, but I was expecting him to be a bit larger than he is by now. Just wondering.

A year old Black Rat Snake should be between 20 and 30 inches long if you are not power feeding the snake. I have four of them at this time, and one is a bit small, but it is still a healthy animal. Black Rat Snakes, like humans are not all the same size. If is eats well and seems healthy, you have nothing to be concerned about. Enjoy your snake.

He's right at 17" at 13 months old. It's a bit small, but he seems to be doing alright...

I would say closer to between 20"-34". Chunk is just over a year (14 months) and is 34"
