The armchair neg post of area

mchambers Sep 06, 2006 12:06 PM

It is reported that River Road is under water at certain points from Redford to Lajitas. Not a lot but some. I can think of possibly several areas that may include the mud flats and the put-in before the cuts leading to the old fallen windmill. The temps are un-seasonably cool at this time as numerous storms have popped up and localized sitting for several days. Anybody heading out remember that the smaller Terlingua Chile cook-off is coming up very soon as well as the hot air balloon blast in Alpine is around the corner. Be careful as another wanted DANGEROUS fugitive has been seen east of Redford and not captured as of yet.
Lajitas owner has paid the back taxes in several hundred thousand dollars I think it said. He is ready to pour in another so much million to keep Lajitas afloat ?
Water problems abound again before the rains set in recently in several areas of the region. I think due to high alkaline or alkaloids ?

mchambers AKA " armchair herper " bringing you the very latest on the negative news of the Bend region.

I know from trips down there that the Lajitas resort is not liked at all by many of the locals. I am in no way trying to separate myth from truth but one large gripe was when they wanted to gate of FM170 because they did not like traffic going through the town after dark. It never happened as they have no title the road. But the resort area of Lajitas is not very popular with local residents none the less.

In general they are a "company town" where you work for the company, buy your goods from the company, and pay rent to the company. This seem to have a way of locking you in once you sign on down there. And the residents of nearby Terlingua and Study Butte very seldom have anything nice to say about the place. It would seem that Lajitas in it's self proclaimed "Palm Springs of Texas" does very little to support the other nearby communities.

Maybe if they were to be sold of in pieces and became a normal town again things would feel better.

Well that is my Lajitas rant for now...

If they are that wet now maybe the river will be back up to a healthy level. I know the rafting tours in the area have been wishing for as much for a long time...

And maybe, just maybe there will be a nice season of collecing. Especially if the rains can stay favorable for a few consecutive seasons.

Everybody make a wish...
I will toss a penny into the pond at the mall myself

We were done last week and there was no flood problems. There were storms all week in the region and the Terlingua creek was ripping but all roads were passable. Now that was a week ago. Things change.

me thinks you were down the same time were and maybe after we left. The last night we drove there were more out on RR then the past 5 nights that we were there. We left and the storms came in and we hit rain almost the next 14 hours back to Kansas. In fact the first 3 nights we had RR to ourself as one night at the gap. oops, forgot that another old fart like myself was out on RR and that being Tony from NM. I dunno, after midnight on most nights the snakes seeme to have shut down even with ideal conditions. I made a comment about night snakes and my cowboy bud has implicated it now into practise of night hunting. It was in observation of the night snake. " When seeing a night snake that's it for the night and might as well turn in " ! It seemed very true at least on this last trip. LOL !
