How many adult D.Auratus in 10 gal.?

MJCAdawg Aug 05, 2003 01:02 AM

Hey i'm new to the forum, and i was wanting some input from alot of you-
could i "squeeze" 3 adult d. auratus in a 10 gallon as long as it had plenty of hiding places and cover, along with some open areas, or should it just be 2? Also, what tank size is everyone's recommendation for 5 adult d. auratus?
thanks

Some would put 3 in a 10 gallon for breeding purposes but I wouldn't. What you described, open areas and lots of hiding places can't be created that well in just a 10 gallon tank. General rule 5 gallons per frog, for 5 I would say 35 because I like giving my frogs a little extra room, but thats just me

Personal i keep 3 in a 55 but i may add 2 more i have in froglet tank in a few months once they grow up a little. honestly i think it looks great right now with only 3 they roam the whole tank and it just seems like it would be crowded with more i let you know in a few months

But hey thats just my 0.02 i prefer to see happy frogs a little less than unhappy frogs more because they are crowded. that and happy frogs seem to come out alot more

hi
If i where you i wouldn't even mess with a 10 gallon tank. i find them too small to do any thing with and they can become overgrown easily, also i try to give my frogs at least 10 gallons per frog, if not more. i think its cooler to see them interacting in a large tank them cramped up in a ten gallon.
just my 2 cents

Hi,
I'd say a pair in a 10 g would be ok.I have my 2.1.1 Costa Ricans in a 20h and they all get along fine.I also have a .0.0.4 kahlua and cream auratus in a 20h also.If I were you I'd try and get a bigger tank.I must agree I like giving my frogs some room and I have a 1.0.2 p.vittatus in a 10g and they are going to get a bigger tank because they are great frogs and deserve better. In my opinion a 10g limits the plants you can use in it also.

you probably could put 3 in a 10 gllon for a short period of time if they have a lot of cover. If you want to breed them though do not put more than 2 in a 10 gallon. The females will kill each others eggs. We have had personal experiance with this in the lab I work in. A 15 gallon for 3 should be fine if you are not worried about breeding.
