A little Paper Towel with his Rat

dryseeker Sep 06, 2006 07:16 PM

Hi everyone-I was just feeding my monster Unicolor Cribo when I noticed he was swallowing a paper towel with his rat, I quickly grabbed the paper towel however he made off with a small piece. He's incredibly gentle except for feeding time so I was unable to recover the small piece & he swallowed it with the rat. Should I be concerned & is a trip to the Vet in order? I know certain substrates can cause digestive issues-any thoughts would be vastly appreciated!

How large of a piece of paper towel compared to the size of the snake? A small piece of something pliable and fragile like paper towel should pass without a problem. Monitor your snake's stool and behaviour closely until and at his next elimination. I would think a small piece of paper towel may be rolled or mushed up by the digestive system pretty well, so it may not actually be obviously noticeable in the feces.

If you notice anything out of the ordinary (a change in behaviour), contact a herp vet.

Thanks for your input-much appreciated. It was a small piece & he's 7.5 feet long so I think he will be fine, it just has never happened with any of my Indigos. Thanks again for your thoughts-have a nice day....
