Just hatched Tarahumara

Aaron Sep 06, 2006 08:25 PM

I just hatched this one out. I think it's probably the most unusual one I've ever hatched. It's got what I think they call the "clown" face where the red goes all the way onto the head, the side speckling is really washed out plus there are the washed out "windows" in the red dorsal blotches.
I think it could be due to incubation temps because I turned off my incubators for 3 weeks while I went on vacation but I also have to wonder if it's genetic because this was a first time breeding of a male offspring back to it's mother.

Actually Todd I am going to try do the same breeding but without the temp fluctuation. Then if I get another one (or more) I will know it's genetic. Thanks for the compliment, I sure am happy with this snake.
PS I saw Joe Forks in TX this year, he sure does have a mighty thick German accent, wouldn't ya say!

Ja, I think he has a little German in him for sure! We are supposed to go to Marathon next Fri-Mon for one last great road hunt. Hope to match up my 1.0 black and white splendy and try for a gbk or two and last year was an awesome trip at this time with 30 some odd snakes seen, mostly crotes and hatchling gophers but the splendidas were gobbling all those gopher hatchlings!

Good luck, sounds like fun.

that is really neat looking. I like all the washed out "windows", but that head is pretty cool. This is one I traded with a friend that ahd the clown face, and a white ventral, on the dorasl it had lots of red bands that were connected dorsally, giving it wide red bands. I think he got offspring from it this year actually. You have any pics of the parents that popped out that little guy you got. Again nice snake man,
Jeff

Thanks Jeff. Yours make only the 3rd "clown" faced knoblochi, including mine that I have heard of. There are probably more that I don't know of though. Have you heard of any others? Have you ever heard a dollar value for them? Very unlikely that I will sell this one but I am curious.
Here are pics of the parents, I actually bred both the original male to the female as well as their son to her.

That '00 male is awesome too. I dont know if I've seen any other "clown faced" ones before. Randy Wright has produced some that I saw with busy head patterns. As far as price, I have no clue. Larry Keller produced the one I had, and I got it from him pretty cheap-($125). Cheap now, I remember buying one back in '98 for around $250 for a lone male..oh well.

Thanks, ya I paid $650 for my original pair in '96. That was a decent price at the time as some people where still supposedly getting $500 each.
