Pacman Eating less!

willowtigris Sep 06, 2006 10:08 PM

I have had my pacman for about 3 months or so now. I got him when he was about 3/4" and now he's about 2". Recently, he has started eating less. He used to eat 2 crickets 3 times a week. He now only eats one or two twice a week. I feed him with tweezers and recently, he has only been opening his mouth a little when he tried to eat it. This makes it hard for him to eat it. He seems to be a little smaller than he was before too. I am VERY worried. Please help!

What are you dusting the crickets with?

I was on vacation though and my mom did not dust them for a week.

Does the supplement contain vitamin D3?

How old is the supplement and how long has the container been open?

Yep, cholecalciferol. I think the problem is it's age though. I looked at the bottom and it expired in July. It has also been open for a VERY long time. My other frogs are fine using it, but maybe the pacman is more sensitive to the state of the calcium. How long after it has been open, should I throw it away? Thanks.

You do not want to use supplements if they have been opened for more than six months (ideally they should be as fresh as possible which is why ones that have sat on a shelf in a pet store can be a problem) and do not use past thier expiration date.

I would suggest taking the frog to a vet for a check up and if the vet thinks its necessary getting its bone density checked. If there has been insufficient D3 in the diet, then it's ability to utilize calcium may have been disrupted.
