Can I feed locusts?

kat1204 Sep 07, 2006 03:58 AM

Currently feeding crickets on a mon and thurs(20ish each day), mealworms and waxworms on a sunday (10 meal and 2 wax), as well as plenty of greens, which he loves!!!

Changing the way i supplement to Neutrobal once every 2 weeks and Reptivite once a week, as he does get a varied veg diet.

If I can feed locusts, how often should they be fed?

Oh, and can wax worms be fed to him when they become moths?

Just a bit of a funny for you all too. This sounds sooo stupid but I think he has a taste in music. My partners brother was playing the Fugees yesterday and I've never seen 'Khan' so miserable!! Just laid there looking blacker than ever. Really strange as he's normally happy,'white' and displaying his gorgeous orange colours round his eyes. Then when the CD was changed to The Strokes, his black colour completely disappeared.
Believe me, I know how mad this sounds but at the time, I tried feeding him to cheer him up, checked temps etc, which were fine, but he was still in a right mood with himself.

Tell me to shut up if you like, but I stick by the notion he seems to like the same music as me!!! How handy!! :OD

Thanx guys!

You can feed locusts to bearded dragons but I would recommend feeding them to adults only. It may also be a good ideal to remove the large hind legs, as the spurs may damage your dragon's throat. Small locusts should be fine for younger dragons, deffinitely use the space between the eyes rule.

Waxworm moths are fine. Just be careful on how many waxworms (the worm itself) are fed, as these are high in fat. Silkworms, butterworms and roaches are also great feeder insects to give your bearded dragon as well.
