my hatchlings

Rouen Sep 07, 2006 08:24 AM

all 3 eggs hatched, #2 and #3 have almost completely absordbed their yolk sacs and thus far seems healthy and happy.

#3's markings are a little more draumatic than what I could capture with the wab cam, I'll hopefully have better pics soon.
not bad variation for three toes though.

I first had a hatchling similar to #3 last year.
This year I have several. Wish I knew what combination
was producing it. And it will be interesting to see
what kind of adult markings this pattern leads to.

I'll hopefully be getting the roll of film developed today I took a pic of the sire to all 3 of them, hopefully #3 will be a little more colorful.. and maybe female that might be wishing for too much though.

They're very cute!

Those are some very cute little hatchlings. Yes, especially colorful for three-toes. I go back and forth...the olive or cream colored individuals are pretty to me, but lately I've been admiring those with more ornate shells. Hey, they're all beautiful. The best thing is when those striking skin colors start to come out.

I know you're hoping for a female, but there is one advantage to having a particularly attractive male. He can fertilize many females with his purdee genetics. I'm looking forward to seeing all of your pics. Keep 'em coming!

it's not as lush as I'd like it to be but I was limited with plants due to hight, there are various strawberries, a couple ferns and the sad looking hosta, 3 rock hides, a rock wall, a hill, some logs and boards for the insects to get in.

Rouen-
Congratulations on your hatchlings!!!
They are very cute and will keep you busy finding things for them to eat!!
Thanks for sharing the pics of your adults and the enclosure also. Will your adults stay out all winter or is it too cold for 3-toeds there? Since it is sheltered and against the house, I bet it is "warmer" than other parts of the yard.

Rouen Sep 09, 2006 06:20 AM

I artificially brumate my adults, they're not native, and since I dont know where exactly they are from it's safer.

the enclosure is actually down by the river about 50ft from the house, what you see in the pic is the duck coop and run and the stockade fencing.

I thought ahead for feeding the new littles ones and did as Steph mentioned she planed to do, I have a large group of sow bugs in a 60 gallon reptarium that are already successfully breeding so they should keep a good supply over winter.

StephF Sep 09, 2006 08:00 AM

You're one step ahead of me on the sow bugs!

How's it going?

Rouen Sep 10, 2006 07:19 AM

seems to be going great, I have a bunch of little ones running around, I collected them back in July so they've had a while to get going, and a few already had eggs on them when I found them.
