Breeding Dumerils without cooling?

UKBorneoGuy Sep 07, 2006 11:06 AM

Having bred Dumerils twice before with limited cooling periods I am considering attempting to breed them this year without a cooling period for a variety of reasons. As I am a private breeder with a limited collection I dont see breeding for profit but more as an adventure and a chance to examine Dumerils behaviour further. Has anyone had similar or greater success without a cooling period? I know of other snakes that when put together will sometimes produce better clutches without cooling periods.

I've bred them several times without "intentional" cooling. I still experience a degree of cooling though as the outside temps. drop the temps. in the room will start to drop. So, for a couple weeks, the temps. are naturally going down, heat tape is still running, and then I hit the point where I need subsequent heat to maintain proper temps. in the room. Let us know how it works out for you. Take care

Hi Paul did you have any successes with Dumerils earlier this year? My pair have had the year off so hopefully the male will be raring to go temps or no temps!!!
I plan to put them in together this weekend and remove the male in December time and see how they go really. No real attempt to manipulate anything just leave it to them. I have a heatmat and a thermostat controlled red lamp to keep the temps at about 82-84oC throughout the 3 month period.

Yeah, I had some babies this year, but gave most of the adults the year off. I don't know if I'm going to breed any of them this season yet. If I can't move all the babies I have now, I definitely don't need any more! Best of luck with your pair this year. Keep us posted! Take care

Paul
