Lighting / Heating Question ??

Steven_ucf Sep 07, 2006 11:08 AM

I recently bought some ball pythons that I am hoping to breed this fall. Where we currently live, we are on a program with our electric company that from 7PM to 7AM our electric charge is 1/2 of what it normally is, but from 7AM to 7PM it is double. So because of this I would like to increase temperatures and give them the 12 hours of light starting at 7PM. My question is; if they are used to a different schedual, do you think changing the lighting and heating times would throw their breeding off. Especially since it is already pretty late in the year.

Thank you,

Steven

Interesting....I think it would probably work. I would cover the windows with heavy, dark curtains to eliminate the natural daylight that would filter in the room. I doubt it would have any significant lasting effect on the animals. I would change it cold turkey, rather than some kind of gradual [bleep]. Just give them one 24 hour period of light or dark, then resume on the flipped schedule. I think they'll adjust just fine within a few days.

the bleeped word was supposed to be "shift". Either I mispelled it or the filter was overly sensitive....funny.
