crested gecko and day gecko

smith710 Sep 07, 2006 12:18 PM

Ok I have a question... but first of all I know the whole "do not mix different species" thing. But for all the people who aren't stuck on the subject about mixing species, I have a question... If I were to put a day gecko in with a crested gecko in a 44 gallon pentagon, do you think they would fight??? given they are pretty much the same size... I was also wondering about a golden gecko... how are they in that situation?
Thanks

I wouldn't say I'm "hung up" on the whole mixing species thing but I definantly don't think it is a good idea. Crested geckos have very poor eyesight in the daytime and could easily mistake anything moving around as a yummy meal. I don't know anything about the other species but I own a lot of cresties. They barely get along with each other let alone another species. I wouldn't reccomend doing it with cresteds.

My brother actually has a crested and a golden living together, and they seem to do ok. However, he has them in what seems to me to be a very large enclosure (not sure how many gallons, but it's big. Also, it's filled with a ton of fake foliage, to the point where it's often very difficult to locate either of the geckos. There's a pretty big basking lamp on one side at the top, and the golden spends a lot of time near that, whereas the crested seems to keep to the cooler sections of the cage. This seems to work out ok for my brother, but it's not something I'd necessarily endorse doing unless you can provide a very large enclosure that would basically allow for dual-zone climate control.
