Few ?'s

Blood3319 Sep 07, 2006 01:07 PM

Alright I have a few ?'s. First is it ok to use a bark type substates for my baby Ig, the kind you can buy at a any pet store, I've red it help keep humidity well. Also what are some plants that I could put in Brocks tank (real one). What do you people use to clean the glass in your tanks? And Brock does not seem to shed? at all really, i've seen him shed once from his head? I bath him at least 3 times a week mist him and his tank throughout the day and his temps are right, with a 5.0 UVB light also. And dose anyone know any breders that sell Red Ig's. Thanks everyone

Ryan

I wouldn't use anything that could be ingested like bark, sand,
pebbles, etc. I use regular newspaper for mine. It works
well, cheap and makes things easy to clean. I have used
ferns with success in my cages. The igs don't eat them but
enjoy climbing around on them.

If your ig continues not to shed, look at your whole set-up
completely. You didn't mention what you were feeding it.

I took in a little guy recently that was abandoned at college
when the owner moved out. It had no UVB and was fed lettuce.
There was no sign of shed when I got it but the other day it
exploded in shed. I have had it about 3 weeks I guess. My
igs seem to shed almost constantly.

Good luck.

Right on Linda, but I am not too sure about the regular newspaper as substrate. I read that the fumes and lead(?) from the ink are unhealthy on the animal.

Ryan, scroll down and look at past Red Iguanas threads.
People have been asking about them quite a bit in the last few months. (Tip: easy way to find, hold Ctrl F, type red iguana).

My 2 cents,

I feed him 80% greens, and today mixed it with a lil yellow watermelon, fresh greenbean, papya, and some baby pellets from flucker I think the name of it is and i soak them first along with the greens. He has a nice size water bowl that he always walkes in and out of too. His cage is set up good with plenty of things to climb on. He can bask in 2 diffrent spots on with heat light and day/night light and the other with his UVB light and 2 smaller green light I just built him a lil legde 2day to for more things to run around on. I use newspaper right now but wanted to use something else, so if not what i metioned before what can i use. I was thinking about useing that fake grass stuff for his ledge, what about that ?

Fake grass has its pros and cons.

Looks great.
Can be cut into squares, with extras on the side, and whenever it gets soiled, remove soiled square, replace with clean one, wash/clean dirty square.
Some types are made poorly, and rip off easily, or the animal can get its toe caught in.
They have to regularly be cleaned to avoid unpleasant odor due to humidity.

I've used it and liked it.
