will a king or milk snake eventually become calm enough that it can sit around my neck and shoulders while i walk around the house? they seem awfull skittish, and i would like to have a snake to wrap around me while i watch TV.

Kings and milks are usually not good candidates for what you want to do. They tend to move around alot.
BTW, can't you provide for the snake's needs by setting up the best environment you can for it and learn about its habits, and then just watch TV by yourself? I just don't get the TV watching with snakes thing, especially as a criteria for choosing a species. They don't even like TV.
And snakes really do not care about their keepers. There likely isn't a snake around that wouldn't leave its cage and owner if given the chance. They do not really like us. They do not want to watch TV with us or spend time with us. Some snakes just tolerate us better, or simply have nothing else to do.
Sorry for the rant. I'm opinionated about this subject, even though it doesn't matter. And it really doesn't matter. I just like snakes to be snakes and not try to make them have human pastimes. Then again, I keep them in cages, which really is of no service to them either I suppose. Oh well. Forget what I said lol.

I disagree. We have 3 snakes and our cornsnake enjoys watching Nick at Nite shows such as the "Andy Griffith" show and "Mr Ed " granted all repeats but I can tell she enjoys it . The other 2 are younger and not interested in quality shows.
LOL. My cornsnake prefers Linux to Windows. I tell you, these cornsnakes are sharp cookies. Kings are pretty dense though.
I have a very docile grayband and a very docile Eastern king. These 2 snakes tend to not to move around as much as others. The GBK is 3 yrs old and the Eastern is a yearling. Derek

Oh your corn is sharp I concur. I also agree that kings are dense . Mine wont watch "old" quality shows and instead wants "reality" shows . You cant get denser than that lol.

Some are calmer than others but none will "hang out" like that . If you ever decide to get another snake a rubber boa might be what your looking for . I have read they stay wrapped around wrists ,etc for awhile.
They have a good rubber boa forum here that might help .
Our calmest snake is a corn and even than isnt going to stay put to long . I imagine even a rubber boa after awhile will want to explore but they do seem to stay still the longest .
By and large, most milks are too high strung for many years and even as adults, they like to bulldoze into every crevice and disappear.
Find a nice half grown Grey Banded King that handles well and you'll have a pretty good TV buddy to hang with.
Jeff
mine is the calmest snake evr EXCEPT: when feeding they are notorious for their feeding response.

I was under the impression they were very nervous and secretive ?
Thats one of the last snakes I would think calm granted I have never had one and dont know anyone that does but by reading I thought that.
We looked into them as fantastic looking but the going off food for long time or babies not eating made us opt for another type .
mexican black kings are known for their feeding responses. mine will ravish anything you put in front of it. it is also the calmest snake i own. i have heard nothing but great things about mbk's. ask around they are great snakes. no problems feeding and i have never heard of any nippyness except after eating then you watch out

Lol oh I thought MBK meant a different type of snake . I have heard they are great snakes . I am going to read up on them as was looking into Graybands but the babies not easy to find (reliable pinkie eaters) .
Thanks
I am shocked that no one's mentioned Gopher snakes as neck-sitting TV watching buddies. I used to always take my 4' male SD Gopher out to put out the trash. He'd stay on my neck and not move. My Great Basin and my Glossy snake will gladly sit around my wrist and watch TV for about 20-30 min before they get restless and start moving. Oh, and my hognose (on his good days) can be a perfect lap snake. He'll sit in my hand forever while I'm on line. I think it's the changing blinking things on the monitor that keeps him enthralled.

I disagree with the person saying that snakes don't like their keepers. Might be true for some, but my corn begs to be taken out. My milks on the other hand just like to hide.
No one has recommended a ball python yet. I think balls are true couch potato's. The'll sit still for hours, at least mine would. When it would move it was usually only the top quarter of it's body.
