Oxalis regnellii as food

ymerejsregor Sep 07, 2006 01:22 PM

Does anyone know if Oxalis (often called Shamrock as a houseplant) are safe or good for uros? I feed them to my slugs and it's quite a treat for them. Yeah, I know...pet slugs...I'm weird.

Aside from whether or not the plant is toxic, notice the name- “Oxalis”.

Although I have not researched the nomenclature of this specific plant, I do believe that the name might have originated from this plants high oxalic acid level. Most forms of sorrel are ranked right up there in the same classification as spinach (some above) regarding oxalates. If your research shows this plant is non-toxic, you may want to consider limiting due to the oxalic acid level.
