Reptile Gardens Here I Come

radwigs Sep 07, 2006 09:01 PM

I am very excited. This weekend I get to go to the Black Hills of SD and go to Reptile Gardens. I am very excited to see Maniac. If I get any good pics I will post them on here for all to see.

Yes this place has a impressive croc collection, impressive reptile collection!!

Have a look at there croc inventory ... and as Ralf mentions this facility has Tomistoma so the list doesnt even show all the croc species they have, very impressive collection.

I would also like to vist this facility!

I used to live right near there. If you like venomous, you will love it. Their 15ft king cobra is a sight to see

I'm glad to hear you are coming, it's too bad you didn't send me an email first. I would have been happy to show you around so that you could see the entire collection as it is not all on display. As far as crocs on display go. We have Dwarf and smooth front caiman, "Gus the Gator" 12.5 feet long, we have an adult male acutus, the first Cuban Crocodile to ever be bred in captivity (yes she is still alive) and Maniac our 15 foot 5 inch Saltwater Croc...very nice!! and a Chinese Alligator

Then in our outdoor show arena We have East and west African Niles, morelets, Salties, Morelet X nile hybrids, mississipiensis, Jacare's, Brown and spectacled caimans

Everything else is not on exhibit.. I'm not sure where you heard we had tomistoma? I wish!

We are missing a few major ones: Mugger, tomistoma, gharial, orinoco and Black Caiman... Anyone that has a surplus of any of the above, please feel free to contact me !!!!

Hey Ralf, know anyone that wants to send me a tomistoma or two?
Hook me up!!!!

Terry, I am sorry that I didn't get ahold you before I went as well but the trip was very last minute and I didn't have much advance planning time. The next time I am out in the hills, and, it will be soon, I will email you before I am going to be there. I had a great time even though it was very foggy the day I was there. Is there really antivenom for every known species of venomous snake? That is what the guy said during the snake show. He said a couple of other things that didn't agree with some of the signs on the enclosures inside. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Reptile Gardens I just want all the information to be as accurate as possible. I was wondering about the Tomistoma when I read that post here too. I was pretty sure that would have been well publicised. Maniac is quite impressive to see. I would love to see him at feeding time some time. I had no idea there were so many different varieties of taipan. Great collection. My mom thought the burmese python in the outside snake show was huge. It was very fun to see her eyes when she saw the truly large burmese and retics inside. LOL!!!
