off feed, need advice

General_Cha0s Sep 08, 2006 09:31 AM

1 of 2 of my females that are housed directly beside each other refused her rat for the first time last feeding, i thought perhaps b/c she was going into shed (although she has never downright refused even when in this stage), however, this feeding her and the female beside her(also a consistent feeder) refused, so would you say it would be safe to assume they are going off on there on accord for breeding season? (i have noticed slightly lower temps in the house and in retrospect have coincidently been reducing there photoperiod)
or...would you reccomend i look for other causes in husbandry first. thx
...o, also any ball park(no pun intended) figures on average time they remain off feed? i have both heard and read such a wide range -4weeks to several months that im not sure what to expect
thx alot

Ive got a lot of WC females and they will eat like monsters for awhile and then just stop one day. They all pick back up but its frustrating to say the least.

Just last night my #13, which has never went off feed until a month ago took a mouse right out of my hand. Was strickly a rat feeder before but wouldnt even touch a small rat, fuzzy, nothing. At 1100 grams i dont care what she is eating as long as she is eating. Guess i have to try and switch her back to rats now.

they are generally bad feeders altogether. I've got some that will take your face off when opening the tub but at times just say no not today. This is what evens the playing ground a bite the 1000g diet some call it. My best feeders often refuse here and there its just part of the game.
