the last '06 hatchling

kensopher Sep 08, 2006 12:04 PM

Well, it's felt like a short summer. After all of the anticipation, the incubator is empty. All of the hatchling Easterns are gone. Unfortunately, I had VERY poor road-killed egg rescue success this year. There were a few, though, which makes the effort worthwhile.

This is the final hatchling, which went today. It was the prettiest of the bunch, and I saved it for a good friend. Luckily, he signed on as a member of kingsnake during Daytona weekend. I may actually get to see the colors, as it grows, if he posts pics on the forum. If they do end up changing the law in my state, I may be able to hold back some of these non-releasables.

Egbert and Goldie are the parents, unless Goldie is still retaining sperm from more than 6 years ago. The parents are pictured in my album. I'm working on a new pic of the female.

No doubt! I saw them and they look great. I really like the shell coloration of your male. I had one that was showing promise like that, but the most recent growth is very dull. I also like the fact that you have varied the enclosure...you have given them many different nooks, crannies, and materials to hunt, explore, and hide around.

Do you know the geographical origin of yours? It seems that the triunguis from Texas have more subdued shell patterns. Mine are ancestrally from Texas.

my large female that gave me the 3 hatchlings came from Tx, the other two were pet store "rescues" so your guess is as good as mine.

this is my other female that keeps making me think she's gravid but I still think it's just fecal matter as it comes and goes.
