Turtle won't eat anything w/ vitamin A!

bluegrrrl79 Sep 08, 2006 05:32 PM

A little while back my painted turtle got an infection in his ear. I took him to the vet and got it cleared up, however the vet said he thought it could have been because he doesn't get enough vitamin A, which makes me feel bad cause I know enough about reptiles, he just won't eat anything that has vitamin A in it!! His appetite is great, it's just he only likes turtle sticks, krill, shrimp(basiclly anything that comes in a can from the fish isle), and any insects(crickets, ants, ect). He won't eat fish or any veggies. Anyone know ways I can squeeze some vitamin A into his diet? I've had him for years and this is just what he likes/doesn't like to eat. Any turtle sticks that have an especially high amount of vit.A?

1 Red Bellied Short Neck turtle, 1 Painted turtle, 1 Mali Uromastyx, 1 Corn snake (and a bunch of fish!)

Hi try soaking some of his/her food with some cod liver oil! This is high in lots of vitamins A D and E. But don't use it too much just soak a couple of bits of there food every two weeks. Do you put any supplement's on there food as any good (i use reptocal) supplement's is high in d3 and has vitamin A and D added. I have been told that limestone calcium flour is very good i know people use them on tortoise's see if you can get hold of that! Have you tried carrot tops very good for vitamin A. Don't feed them for a couple of days then try the carrots make them want the food a bit more.

I could supplement but wouldn't just it float out in the water? Or maybe if I soaked the stick for a long while it would work. I've tried carrot tops, he won't even taste them.
