Whitewater Canyon Arroyo Toads

Tyger7 Sep 08, 2006 09:30 PM

I work with this species in a professional capacity. I know Whitewater is frequented by herpers. While I know none of you would harass or otherwise harm this species because it is listed as Endangered under the ESA, I wondered if anyone had seen one recently there. It appears there have been no sightings of the arroyo toad in Whitewater in recent years. Western toad and red-spotted toad seem to be relatively common however. Thanks for any info. Feel free to contact me confidentially if you believe that is appropriate.

How about contacting Chang of CDFG, I hear he is there nightly playing with the Palm Spring boys and their snakes. I have nightwalked those creeks and found lots of Red-spotted Toads, Western Toads, Pacific Treefrogs, and California treefrogs, all within feet od one another, but no Arroyo toads. Interestingly, there are Two-striped Garters there as well.

Thats a waste of time, he wouldnt know an Arroyo toad from a bullfrog. A word of advice, make sure you have an attorney with you when you go out there...
