You CAN, but it doesnt mean you should. I can thank of a few reasons against usuing it and only one reasopn why anyone would want to.

CLOACA HERPS
When they built new enclosures for large snakes (adult retics, rocks, burms, anacondas) they used river stone as gravel/bedding.
