question on size

mlove Sep 09, 2006 09:30 PM

Hi, another question... Does anyone know how large an adult Nevada chuck will get and at what age does it reach it's maximum size? I've seen alot about red backs and angel island chucks but have not found much info on the Nevada chucks. Do not many people keep Nevada chucks and if so is there a reason why?

There is not too much dufference between NV and Redbacks from AZ except color a some small head structure differences. They are the ame species; Sauromalus ater. I would expect if it is a gboy to get to about 15 inches give or take an inch and slightly smaller for a female. NV chucks are probably more commonly kept that the rest as NV is the only state that still allows commercial collecting of chucks. Most people that are really into chucks keep the redbacks just because they think they are more desireable colorwise. They get a nice rich red color in the mid section. Most NV chucks with the exception of a few locales in Southern NV get little to no red. Color on chucks in NV is a lot more variable that in AZ and even though they do not get the red there are some awesome colors that consist of tan, black, white, gray and even silver looking. Eve's NV male is spectacular. Depending on how hot you keep them and how much you feed they can reach adult size in anywhere from 3 to 5 years. BTW where did you get your chuck from? Tom

I was on a waiting list for a red back from John C since he has amazing breeding pairs but unfortunetly his clutches were not successful this year. During my search for a cb I did find several people with available red back or red tail adults but the chucks were not used to be handled or had semi aggresive temperments. There is also a local petstore that currently has an adult wc white tail. It it beautiful but aggresive. The baby chuck I'm getting is from Russ on the reptile auctions. He said he hatched 4 babies of which I believe he said 2 were available. He stated he would pick out the less skittish baby for me and it should be here Wednesday. I am very excited but since this is my first chuck I can use alot of help and advice.

I sold Russ his original breeders. I wander if he still has them? The female was Gracie if I am not mistaken. Russ is a good guy.

No, I believe Russ is in Taylor, UT. Atleast that is what his ad stated. I never got his last name. Hopefully I'll get more info from the email I sent him. I requested the hatching date and photos of the parents if possible. It's corny but I'm making a baby book for my new chuck Oh, you can see the ad still in the reptile auction. He had 1 baby left for sale and I think the auction ends today. If you happen to check out the ad let me know what you think. Thanks!

The rumor of my demise was premature

Scared me for a minute. Presently on a one year all expense paid vacation in Iraq. Still have Gracie amazingly enough. She is not doing too bad for a great grandmother. Have moved the mob to our place in New Mexico. Getting close to retirement finally and trying to get the household in place there. Also still have our Eqyptian Uro we had gotten as a baby about 15-16 years ago. Back to the critters soon.

It's great that you were able to get the last one. The babies looked healthy from what I could tell of the photos and Russ replied to my several emails about them. It seemed like he took good care of the babies. If you would like I can forward you a photo of the parents when he sends it to me. He also said the hatching date was 8/20/06. My baby should be here tomorrow. I'll let you know how everything goes. When will yours be delivered? I was so tempted to buy the last chuck on auction but as this is my first I figured I better start with only the one. I'm happy that someone else on the forum was able to get him/her.

Just before I got the last baby, I got this female Chuck, she is a wild cought but has been a pet for about a year and is about two years old

She is very pretty. Is she tame and what type of chuck is she? Sounds like you have a great collection. You are going to have to update your signature soon
