Ribbon feeding problems...

Green_Ranger Sep 09, 2006 10:06 PM

I don't understand. My snake has been eatting fish since I got her, but aren't they supposed to eat worms as well? I've tried worms and pinkies and she just will not eat anything else. I put the worm in her aquarium, today, and the worm curled up beside her, in her hide and she just sat there staring at it. Are there ribbons who only eat fish? Is there a way to give her extra vitamins to combat vitamin deficiencies?

According to litterature, ribbons eat mainly amphibians and fish. Try scenting the pinkies.

I don't know what vitamins are sold over there, but I use one called Nutrobal, in powder form. You just cover the fish with a layer of the powder, it sticks to it pretty well. I suppose most pet stores would have some form of vitamin supplements intended for reptiles.

Garters typically are the worm-eaters. Ribbons mostly reside by ponds and lakes and things and eat minnows. So a diet of strictly fish is great for a Ribbon. I had one for awhile (that I released), and he was a great eater on just a minnow a day. No supplements needed.

If you're worried about vitamin deficiencies you're probably thinking about fish (like feeder goldfish) that contribute to a thiamine deficiency. Combat this by feeding a variety of fish.
