Which materials are safe?

bigmansm Sep 10, 2006 01:45 PM

I was thinking of using 1/2" pvc tubing: 10ft = $2.50
elbows and the assorted fittings are: $1.20 per fitting

And i was thinking of using the fiberglass screen door material: $x.xx/ft. is this safe? there are metal screns to in the same sizing and the metal is pretty soft but i figured i better for with a soft "platis" type material for the screening.

What do you think? Do you have better ideas for material?
recommendations are welcome.
thanks
Todd

How do you plan to attach the screen to the PVC pipe?

How big is the enclosure?

They do make screen window replacement kits at most hardware stores and even via a few websites. These include the frame joints and screen to make a square window. This is probally the easiest way to approach a screen enclosure. After you build the sides and top simple use machine screws to attach the individula window pieces.

Different sizes can be combined to make a door. You can also use rivets.

Quite a number of people have built enclosures in this fashion, perhaps one will post some pics.

Good Luck
