cage heat and using flexwatt inside

cee4 Sep 10, 2006 03:11 PM

Okay Ive got my shelf turned cages half done.I am currently working on the fake rock background.I have three cages built into the shelves.Big problem is how to heat.I will have the top housing a ball python the middle a cornsnake and bottom will be empty for awhile(possible housing for a small colubrid of some kind).
If I put a piece of flexwatt inside how do I waterproof it.Is there a better option.I worry that the flexwatt will provide great belly heat but what about the rest of the cage? The shelf turned cage is 48 inches long which is alot to heat.
The shelves I used are solid hardwood of some kind, very heavy. With a 1 inch particle board back(It will be covered with either fake rock or some other waterproof material).

If so this sounds like the perfect situation for a RHP like those by Pro Products. The cost is a little higher but they are safe to the touch and have an awesome warrenty. If they are out of you league there is ways to make Heat tape work or even rope light, but I think the RHP is proabally the best option.

Good Luck

I was thinking about this but how does it work.Would it create an overall heat and a basking site?
Would a 12x12(They are expensive)radient panel heat a cage 48 inches long and 16 inches tall and deep?
Im not too worried about the cornsnake Ive had her for 3yrs and she has never used a basking site, ever.. But the ball might need some belly heat.
But a cheaper method might be better..
