Can boas suffer from heat stroke?

shadowmonkey01 Sep 10, 2006 05:04 PM

I posted this messege a few weeks ago and since then I have soaked her every other day and I took her to the vet this week, he gave her a blood test and called me to tell me everything appeared to be normal. But she still does the head thing.

Here is my original post:I have Hogg island boa, who started doing this head roll thing when I remove her from her cage. I have only had her for a few months and I have never noticed her doing it until today. She seems to have control of herself when she climbs and moves about; except when she has her head dangling off a branch or my hand. When she decides to go back up her body she flips her neck over to the piont that
I see the underside and then she straightens it and goes up. My only thought is that she got too hot, I had the thermostate on my heat tape short out so it was going unrestricted in the middle of this heat wave here in california, is it possible that she suffered a heat stroke ofsorts

Any living "critter" can suffer from to much heat. My opinion-Not Expert- just many years of working with and breeding reptiles, this sounds more like a problem with humidity. Often reptiles display the "nose to the sky" behavior with respitory problems, which no doubt improper humidity levels can cause. My suggestion would be to make sure your vet is reptile savvy. Good luck with your Boa.
