Everglade ratsnake

spangler Sep 10, 2006 07:59 PM

I've purchased an adult everglades rat snake over the summer and she seems to have come down with some kind of infection. The snake will eat but partially digest the food and then regurgitate it about two days later. I have observed the snake sit in its cage with its mouth open while lying down. I've noticed today that on its left side of its mouth it doesn't seem to be closing all the way. I am going to find a vet and take her in but thought I would post here for any suggestions.

Thanks,
Spangler

This is likely a husbandry and/or wild-caught issue, but there are other possibilities.

Keep your vet appointment, and review your husbandry with the ratsnake forum. In the meantime, your snake is obviously struggling with something, hence, with-hold food for now, and raise temps to the higher end of the POTZ (I believe 85F would be good for this species, but double check this). This will optimize your snake's immune response to whichever pathogen might be present.

Thanks Ian. I do fear it might be something I did but we shall see. I have a vet appointment for this Friday. Thanks for the advice.
