New here

UroTamer Sep 10, 2006 09:56 PM

I'm new here, and relatively new to Uros too. Before I got mine though I read all night long on their requirements so I could have their home ready before they got here. I had 1 female and 2 males, but someone got in my garage where I keep them and took the female about 3 weeks ago and noone saw anything. It will probably always bum me out because I'm worried about her. The 2 males are a handfull still and I enjoy them every day.
Here is a list of my "family"
2 Mali Uros
1 Paddletail Newt
3 Frogs (caught locally where my neighbours pond was)
2 Goldfish
1 Albino Leopard Gecko
2 dogs
2 cats
2 hampsters
a wife and 3 children

I hope to expand my reptile friends in the future and love hearing and reading about others. Funny, a year ago I hadn't considered reptiles or amphibians, now I can't imagine not having them!!! ( I felt the same way about my kids )

hello there. welcome to the uro world. sorry to hear about your female. in regards to your other post, i don't think i have ever seen anything at all about mali specific diets. i feed only greens and veggies, maybe give a cricket as a treat sometimes. helga loves bok choy and hugo loves endive, among other things. you will notice that they will eat some things and not others.

some old pics

Thanks for your post. Your Uros are pretty cool!!! I've had the bug about them since I got my first (the stolen one) and my enthusiasm just keeps growing. A year ago I hadn't considered a reptile for a "friend", now I LOVE them.
Hopefully I can get some pics to upload soon so you can see my collection.

Glad your here, Welcome !

Congratulations on becoming a uro parent I'm so sorry your female was taken. Are you sure she did not somehow get out and is in your garage? They can hide in some awlfully tight spots.

Anyway Best Wishes with your males, hope you somehow manage to get your girl back. Post some pics when you get the chance.

Many knowledgable people on here to guide you along if you have questions, just holler

Enjoy the forum

Thanks for the welcome Eve!!
I've looked all over for my female Mali, even though her cage was closed when I left and still closed when I noticed her gone. Just in case someone let her out without putting her back. She got away from me before but I found her. One of my males I almost renamed Houdini because he got out 4 times when he shouldn't have been able to But then Zeus works too, ha,ha.

Okay, I've gotta ask.... Why do you keep your herps in the garage?

My garage is in the process of a remodel which will make it another room...our pet room. Besides since it's on a seperate heat source I can adjust the temps for them without having to worry about our temp inside. Actually it'll be two rooms with one being at around 70' and the other around 80'. And I can drop the temp of the Uro side for brumation too.
