Genetics Help Please....

metachrosis Sep 11, 2006 12:19 AM

Trying to play with this Genetics Wizard thing.... but can't seem to figure how to put all this in....

Say you have an offspring from F3 Kahl Albino X Ihle line Coral Albino and you breed it to a 66% Poss DH Sunglow 50% Het Stripe whose parents are DH Sunglow 100% Het Stripe Male X 100% Het Pastel Albino Female...how would this all shake out litter wise??

This stuff is confusing....my head hurts!!!

which for this discussion will be an albino

and you breed it to a 66% Poss DH Sunglow 50% Het Stripe whose parents are DH Sunglow 100% Het Stripe Male X 100% Het Pastel Albino Female...how would this all shake out litter wise??

again, if I have this right Triple het (hypo/albino/stripe) x pastel het albino = (in your individual animal) Hypo, 66% het albino, 50% het stripe.

Genetics wizard does not have an option for possible hets so to get the possible outcomes you have to assume either het or not het for each individual morph.

So, you have albino X Hypo, 66% het albino, 50% het stripe

I will ignore the 50% het stripe since the albino does not have it.

Two possibilities then:
1) Albino x hypo het albino (DH sunglow):
25% sunglow
25% DH Sunglow
25% albino
25% het albino

2) Albino x Hypo:
50% DH sunglow
50% het albino

Ok, would it be easier to figure this one out?

"Pastel Hypo" from Super Salmon Male x Pastel Female bred with a "Coral Albino" from Kahl Albino X Ihle line Coral Albino??

Would the Pastel Hypo be a better choice than the pairing of the Coral with the 66% Poss DH Sunglow we mentioned in the previous post?

Thanks

Pastel hypo x coral albino produces
1/2 hypo heterozygous albino
1/2 heterozygous albino (looks normal)

I can't figure out whether that 66% Poss DH Sunglow is hypo or not. If he is hypo, then I'd mate him to the coral albino in preference to using the pastel hypo. Because the worst case scenario is that he wouldn't be heterozygous albino. If he's not, then the results would be the same as with the pastel hypo. If he actually is DH sunglow, then you could get sunglows in the first generation instead of waiting for a second generation, as rainbows-r-us wrote.
