what snake would live in a smaller cage

cee4 Sep 11, 2006 07:34 AM

I am building a cage with three levels.I never intended for the bottom level to end up a cage but it did.So I would love to get a smaller easy to care for snake that would be happy forever in this size. Its 48long x 15deep x 12tall(pretty narrow).I like to give my animals lots of room so Im thinking under 3ft preferable more around 2ft long snake as an adult and it needs to be a ground dweller since there isnt much height to the cage.
Im thinking hognose
But what about a sand boa or a african house snake, Im not sure how big these get or how much room they need...Of course Ill research but suggestions of what to look into would be great.

A Children's, Stimson's, or anthill python would be good for that space.

Any of those species would be fine, as would any of the smaller kingsnakes or ratsnakes for that matter. A cage that size could easily house a 4 foot snake.

Whatever you choose, I'd plan on elevating the cage so the bottom is at least 6 inches off the floor. A short cage like that on the floor would be hard to access/clean.

You've probably already thought of that, just thought I'd chip in just in case you hadn't.
