Mojave Ball Python PRICE WENT UP????

Hoopy Aug 05, 2003 09:23 AM

Hello,

Has anyone noticed that the price of Mojave ball pythons went way up??? Has there been a super mojave produced or something? I noticed that the price went from $7,000-$8,000 all the way up to $10,000 for males and $15,000 for females. Why is this? Did I miss the memo on the super mojave or is something up and the Sutherlands? Are they hinting that they have produced a super mojave and that is why the price went up so dramatically?

I think it's gone up more than that. Anyone remember the first Mojave's for sale? I want to say they where like $3 or $4K but I'm not sure.

I would think that if a super had been produced it would be publicized so it's probably just speculation that there will be a nice super now that we are probably pretty close to seeing one. It MIGHT turn out that a homozygous for any combination of platinum, butter, phantom, or mojave is a blue eyed leucistic. Of course these mutations may all be completely unrelated but they all seem to have a little something in common even though they are also distinct. With the three leucistics that Ralph Davis has produced from lesser platinum X phantom you got to start wondering if it's due to some other gene he just happened to have, some interaction between those two genes only, or if other similar looking lines could also produce them. I guess time will tell.

We believe the phantom and the Mojave to be closely related. So much so that we are breeding our Lesser Platty to all four of our big Mojave girls in hopes for the lucy next year. We call it the quest for the lucy's.

Do you have any good eggs incubating from Mojave X Mojave? That might shed some light on things.

It doesn't look good for us this year and we aren't going to breed Mojave to Mojave next year. We aren't sweating it though. The Mojave girl that we thought was going so she will breed for sure next year to our lesser platty.

There must be a reason. Maybe 2 mojaves produce that white snake the snake keeper hatched. I don't think a mojave is worth it.

If their yellow stripe leucistic came from Mojave X Mojave I would think they would have said so when it first hatched and marked the Mojave's way up back then. Who knows, not me ...

From what I understood when I talked with Colette at the IRBA show in July it was from breeding 2 banded balls together.

I noticed that too. I should have gotten one last month!

Well I am happy for the moment that I bought one about 4 weeks ago. Hopefully the price will go up to $1,000,000. Just kidding. I posted because I was curious if there was a logical reason for the price to rise up so much since I bought one.

She had them at that price bc they were twins

Hoopy Aug 05, 2003 02:47 PM

you said that she had them at that price because they were twins. What and who are you talking about? Right now the Sutherlands are charging 10k for males and 15K for females, which is an increase over last weeks price. Camlon reptiles is also posting a price tag this week of 10K for males and 15K for females. Anyways, what is this twins talk about?

Dont know why they would sell both of them for more if they were only selling them for that much because one of them had a NORMAL twin. I dont think the twin is the reason they are selling for more, there must be something we dont know about...
