I'm so excited I might not make sense

j3nnay Sep 11, 2006 10:14 AM

I woke up this morning and went to flip on the heat light for my adult pair of ball pythons...and they were mating!

They've been living together for the past month, month and a half now, and I haven't even tried to cycle them because it's been so hot in my house that I didn't need any heating at all. Only just this week was it dropping into the 70's at night.

This is my first time ever breeding my lady... I'm just ecstatic!

Just a normal and a normal, but still!

Haha, my non-herpy friends are going to think I have completely lost it.

but what I really want is more ball pythons!

LOL, congrats. And you may well loose it yet. The wait for the eggs, then the hatch is EXcruciating.

Boy is that right, Quig.
My first every ball python clutch is due to hatch in 10 days. The eggs (5) are starting to dimple, now. I thought it was a long wait for her to show ovulation, but this is excruciating!
(B-T-W, these are from an albino male to normal female - so 100% het albinos! Hoping for lots of girls!)

Just a note that since you didn't cycle them they may not produce. If put together they will lock up but if they haven't been cycled the male may not be producing viable sperm or the female may not ovulate since conditions weren't met. They still could go it happens but without meeting their seasonary conditions it is a lower probability.

I will actually be cycling them once temps start dropping in another month or so, I was just excited that not only was I a) right when I sexed the male (despite the previous owner's confidence that it was a girl) but b) there really IS a chance I might have babies next year!

It'll be interesting to see what goes on when I actually start cycling. And when/if my female actually lays eggs.

You actually did cycle them.

j3nnay Sep 12, 2006 10:32 AM

I guess I misunderstood the temps needed. I thought it was high 70's normally, low 70's to cycle, with daytime temps going from mid 80's at the cool end (normally) to low 80's/high 70's.

It's just been so hot up until the last couple weeks that I haven't had much choice in the temperatures.

is often enough to get them to cycle. So a night drop from high to mid 70's might have been enough to cycle them and cause them to breed.
Just wait and see if she lays good eggs.
