can a mean beardie change?

velcro Aug 05, 2003 09:47 AM

My son's beardie is very friendly and loves to be held because Velcro is held everyday, several times a day. The question is that my son's friend is thinking of buying a 7-8 month old male beardie from a private individual who apparently hasn't spent much time with him. He is agressive and when picking him up, you have to wear a glove because the beardie likes to bite and hiss. The boy thinking of buying the beardie is 12 years old and I am sure would spend lots of time with him. Is it too late to change the beardie? Should he give it a try?

there is the possibility that the dragon will change, by nature they tend to be docile reptiles. With some kind care and persistance he could tame him down. However, i think he also has to be aware that the dragon may not change and even if he doesnt i would hope that he would care for him and love him just the same. Dragons are great because they seemingly love to be handled and have contact with us, but even so, some indivuduals may prefer not to and we have to respect that also. Best of luck to him! bottom line, if he is willing, i would certianly give it a shot

Thanks for the information. I will pass it on. I think the same way...this beardie needs love and to get away from his current owners for sure.

If this kid is willing to work on it, I think the beardie can change, and what a satisfying experience it would be for that kid. One thing i've found that helps mean beardies is placing the cage up off the floor. I had one that was mean and was on the floor. Now he's up 3 feet off the floor, and he's a lot easier to handle.
