Should I be worried?

Grunngg Sep 11, 2006 06:35 PM

There's a corn snake at my job that I know in the past had some kind of reperatory problems. The snake was looked over by a vet and givin a series of shots and all was well. I think that was probably about 5 years ago. Well today I went to feed the snake and noticed his mouth was sitting slightly crooked. He opened his mouth wide and it seemed alright. But then the snake continued to open it's mouth wide every couple seconds. My co-worker said it was kinda similar to what the snake did in the past. I wasn't terribly worried because after a couple minutes of opening and closing its mouth, the snake ate fine.

What do you guys think this could be? Possibly the same problem it had before? Or something different? I'll keep my eyes open for now and possibly get ahold of the vet if I notice it again.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

PS- The snake shed about a week ago, if that helps any.

Could you describe its tank setup?
Size of container
substrate in container
type of heating and temperatures
water bowl size
lighting

with a good description of its home we might "see" something
to indicate possible problems.

They keep it in a 55gallon tank with walnut shell bedding. A branch for decoration/climbing. The water dish is of decent size. The snake could probably fit its whole body in it, if not, then definitly most of its body. UV tube, 100watt day bulb, 100watt red night bulb. I believe there's a heat pad under the tank also.

remove the lights its probaly too hot. this time of year you may not even need a heat pad(some areas) lights are not needed, i say turn them off leave heat pad on and see how its doing after that
