sexing visually?

khaleda Sep 11, 2006 07:33 PM

I've heard that its possible to sex a ball by guaging the tail length and spur curve. Is this true? If so, what are the general characteristics between male and females? I know I can just have it probed, but I'm not interested in breeding it, I'm just curious if the 'boy' i've had for a year is really a girl... 3ft 2in long. 2 and 3/4inches from vent to tip of tail. head is 2inches snout to back and 1 inch at its widest point.

Thanks

Well, at around three or four years old a male will top out at four feet, females will get longer, five or so feet, and much thicker. I have a male and a female, and there is an obvious visual difference between them, but it's only due to the size of the entire body.

1.0 fat fuzzy mutt (Smokey)
1.1 cats (Thidwick and Turtle)

but what I really want is more ball pythons!
