Is the cage to big?

Kicksome123 Sep 11, 2006 07:39 PM

I currently have 2 iguanas in the same cage and they are very non-aggressive towards each other. I was just wondering about their eating habits, They wont eat as much as I think they should. I offer them freash dark green vegetables suchs as turnips and collards and a few other things every day. They never eat by themselves I always have to put the food in there mouth and then they will start chewing and eating it. If they dont eat for a day they get skinny and I have to hand feed them and it takes around 30 minutes for each iguana. Can someone help me?

My suggestion would be to separate them. Although you may
not see it, it sounds like there is some stress going on.
It certainly can't hurt at this point. Be very careful about
handfeeding this way. One of my rescues who was in bad
shape when I took her in had to be syringe fed for a year before
she started eating again. In part it is believed she enjoyed
it. This is not the way it should be and anytime an ig is
not eating you must find and fix the problem as to why it is
not eating. Hand feeding is just putting a bandaid on it.

I have 2 iguanas and just took another in in rescue. I would
NEVER house them together. They simply cannot be trusted.
It isn't always an outright attack but the more submissive
igs will suffer.

Sorry if I sound like I am preaching but I feel rather strongly
about this.

I have them both in a 65 gallon reptarium tall with several vines and logs to climb on I offer 2 different food trays. I have the UVB and all that so yea. I dont see why they would be causing problems with each other eating because they sleep on each other almost every night...

could someone please tell me why the wriste on the first Ig is like that, dark, no scales. My baby after its escape and get hurt had that on his legs. As I nursed him back to full health it has gone mostly away but not all has gotten its color back ?

I have no clue how he got like that, I got him from a petstore and that is how he came. They have around 10 igs in a 40 gallon breeder
