House Gecko Eggs Preparing to Hatch?

HOU-LONG Sep 11, 2006 10:36 PM

I've had my house gecko eggs incubating now for about 47 days. Now they are starting to sweat. I figured that this was a sign of the egg preparing to hatch and decided to candle it. The thing is, i dont see the dark shape of the gecko inside! The egg has been following patterns of being fertile, marshmallow texture, no denting or molding and inside the egg is red like a usual fertile egg, but i cant see a shape! Shouldnt i be able to see the gecko this close to hatching!

P.S. This is a mediterranean house gecko and when the 2 eggs are candled, they are red inside not yellow.

No, you won't be able to see a gecko shape inside, well I never have been able too.

Thank you very much. I have another question...
How long after the eggs start to sweat do they hatch? Its benn three days since they started.

HOU-LONG Sep 13, 2006 08:44 PM

My eggs still havent hatched on day 52 and they stopped sweating. They havnt changed at all other than that but i am getting worried that they are just infertile. (the evidence points to the fact that they are fertile) Could I get some pointers! Please!

What do you mean the eggs are sweating?Hard shelled gecko eggs don't sweat. If they are soft shelled they are mis-identified.52 days is no big deal so relax.Be patient, there is nothing you can do for them anyway. If they are fertile and are going to hatch they will do so when they are ready. Why don't you post a pic of the eggs. That mght help.

What is the species of gecko you are refering to?

Thanks for the post jay. My species of gecko is H. garnotti. The sweat must have been extra humidity. This is a picture of them (srry for the poor detail) from after they were layed. They havent changed much since then.

I wouldn't worry, I'm sure they'll hatch soon enough.

Its been two months now. Shouldnt there be at least some sort of sign? They havent even gotten bigger or swelled.

jays Sep 24, 2006 01:25 PM

Your eggs will not grow or swell. They are hard shelled.
