question on: hibernation & feeding

it may sound stupid but,do cal kings hibernate? if so when would i do this? and is it important for breeding! also one more stupid question how often do i feed my snake like once a week or so? or more often? i feed him one mouse a week and he's about 24 in. now but should i feed him more?

They experience cool temps in their range. Near me, burrow temperatures in the Cal king fields during Winter range from the low 50s to the low 60s depending on the day, angle, etc. So, that is likely what the snakes are exposed to within reason.

I feed snakes when they are hungry, being areful not to feed them to the point where the cage conditions do not allow them to digest it all. But I feed multiple times per week if they act really hungry, and drop back when they don't. Pretty much that simple. Your once a week schedule may be OK for simply maintaining a snake in a cage. But if it a female that will be bred, you had better not treat her as a maintenance snake.

Cooling can be done in an insulated plywood box placed in a cool, dry area. I've done this in a garage, but I had to put in a heat pad because Jan temps got down into the 30s. Worked fine.
