New Barrs cages

vegasbilly Sep 11, 2006 10:45 PM

Here's a pic of my new Barrs cages w/Helix panels and a Helix DBS-1000 control/thermostat. I have an exact duplicate on the other wall minus the small cage w/2 holdback juvie Emeralds.

These are 24" cubes. I read the earlier thread about different cages - I also have a few Visions. Barrs are the lightest by far and hold heat and humidity like crazy. I'm using them to cycle my ETBs and Chondros.

I use a Rainmaker system to mist all 10 of the bigger cages.

Hi Bill,

I really like Doug but have never seen one of this cages in person. I bought his basic misting kit and some various other parts for a project I was working on. He was extremely helpful, a true class act. Thanks for stopping by and posting.

Now, how about some pictures of your homemade Gonyosoma and Spilotes cages, not to mention the animals inside of them

Good to hear back from you again! I lent my camera to my oldest son and won't get it back 'till next Tuesday - I'll snap some then. My Spilotes are in two new cages I bought from a guy in SoCal that was downsizing. They're 4'x3'x2' - HUGE! Over the years I've realized they prefer more floor space than vertical space. The 2.2 F3s are a year away from breeding and the females are growing at twice the rate of the males.

Post pictures of those huge cages when you get a chance.

I'm not as experienced with Spilotes as you but I also found they utilize floor space quite a bit. However, few things in the snake world are as impressive as seeing a large Spilotes curled up in the branches of its cage and examining you as you examin back.

Very neat species. I just wish they made a low-metabolic version, LOL.

Ha Ha, I know what you mean! A friend of mine started a Pheasant hunting operation in Overton, Nv. and bought 2,000 baby Pheasants. Upon hearing of the high initial mortality of the chicks (stress, cannibalism) I asked him to freeze his dead chicks. MAN, the Spilotes went beserk! It takes tham longer than the traditional 30 seconds to eat a mouse (lol) but I could only imagine the havoc they must create when an adult gets into a poor, unsuspecting peasant's hen house!

I agree about how cool they look in a branch but if given a hide box, thats where they prefer to remain most of the time.
