Recordkeeping...

Upscale Sep 11, 2006 10:54 PM

I have always kept an index card with every snake, I record eats and sheds with dates. Real basic. I keep them in a half-bag ziplock baggie which perfectly fits the card. I slide it into the rack space on one end. I am constantly fussing with the card, they fall to the floor, etc. They are a pain in the neck and after all these years, I really am starting to think I really barely need them. I’m thinking of using some kind of grease pencil and just writing right on the sterilite lids and keeping the same lid with the snake. You guys use a card holder or something? Any ideas?

I made a spread sheet on Exel, every animal has a tab and the first tab has a roster of what I have on hand. I have alot of animals! To keep it simple all of my animals have a number, I keep a clip board with regular lined paper, write the info down and put it all in the computer later( I also have a daughter who wants to get on the computer, so data transfer becomes a "chore" for her too...aint kids great?)
The only bad thing about writing on the lid is you will run out of room one day. I have a pal who does everything on a dry erase board then takes a picture of it at the end of the month and erases it and starts over.
I hope this helped. Rock On, Blue

I also keep an Excel spreadsheet with a separate tab (worksheet) for each of my snakes. I record feedings (ex. 10/11/06 2 LP), sheds, and length. It works great. It is located in "My Documents" on my hard drive, but I also back it up on a 256K flash drive every so often (just in case).

I like seeing all my snakes rythms and cycles, and if I need vet care, I just print off their sheet and take it to the vet with me. The vet really appreciates the info.

I would suggest (like previously stated), keeping a clipboard of your feedings and transferring them into a spreadsheet when time permits.
