One gecko or two?

greentara Aug 05, 2003 10:42 AM

I posted here about a month ago and got some wonderful advice as a newbie wanna be gecko keeper. The habitats all set to go and I just got an email from a local breeder that i contacted. She has one baby gecko left that I can have, if I'm still interested. I am but was planning on buying two. This sounds really dopey but is it better to start with a pair or one? I admit that I'm afraid that one might be lonely but i know that herps don't react the same way that mammals do to these things. Would it be safe to add another later? Thanks so much.

you don't have to worry about it getting lonely and you can add another whenever you want just make sure you don't have two males and you quarentine the new arrival.

I agree, leopard geckos actually prefer having the whole enclosure to themselves rather than being with other leo's.

if you are new to leos it is best to start off with one. this way you devote alot more time to that single leo. also, 2 leos will need a larger setup than what you have for a single leo. then there is also the possibility that both are males, which will fight and will need to have seperate enclosures. leos are not very social creatures, and like other reptiles, don't really care if they have a friend with them, unless it is breeding season of course.
