Update on Pepe

samster Sep 12, 2006 11:30 PM

Hi all. So today I took my WTF Pepe to an exotics vet in colorado (I live in Wyoming). They confirmed she was impacted, did an x-ray, and proceded with surgery to remove the obstruction. They rarely operate on frogs, so it was a big deal and all the surgeons, anesthesiologists, and some vet students were watching the procedure. They pulled a large amount (golfball size clump) of sphagnum moss out of her intestines. The doctor said she never would have passed it on her own. She recovered from anesthesia, and now just has to heal up and start eating again. Hopefully she will. She's a little trooper. Anyways, I know most of my friends and collegues think I'm absolutely crazy for spending 180 dollars on my frog, but now that it's done, I have no regrets. And hopefully I will have quite a few more years with my girl. To anyone who uses this moss (sold specifically for amphibians in pet stores) PLEASE be careful. Pepe was on it for 9 years with no problems, but all it takes is once. Take care.

That's great! Hope it all goes well.

Permission to cross post? There are many that can benefit from this.

I'm glad your frogs ok!

Boo on your friends, if you care about something enough to take it into your home, you are responsible for what happens to it. Even if it is a frog. (I get laughed at too when I take my babies to the vet)

Yes, that is definately okay to post it elsewhere. Anything that can save someone else's baby from having this happen would be great. Thanks!

Thanks, just letting you know that I posted it over on the repticzone, tree frog forum in case you'd like to hop on over!

Glad things worked out.

To all your friends who think you are crazy -- well look at this way -- You could have gotten 10 or more Treefrogs for what you paid to save this one BUT you only have 1 Pepe.
I think people forget that because they do put a monetary value on things. I hope your little friend makes a full recovery and you can enjoy it's company for many years to come.

Steve
