Infos Rhamnophis aethiopissa

thomas.leclercq May 20, 2003 12:42 PM

Hello.
Someone can give him me of the information on Rhamnophis aethiopissa.
I know that 3 subspecies exist and that it is part of the Colubrinae subfamily, but I ignore if it is about a venomous (opistoglyphe). It is for it that I mailed in Venomous.

Is it about a very fragile species?
In Europe (I am from Belgium), I never had renting to see some on the purses.
Is it about a species so rare?
Thank you for your answers.

Hello.
Thank you for your answer.
I inquire because I like this snake a lot and displeased, me me interresse to the rare snakes.
But I never saw a ramphiophis blow some. There are means maybe to provide itself/themselves of it imported of it, but I doubt that they don't survive!
Are yours born in captivity?
Thank you
Thomas

Hi

Rhamnophis aethiopissa is non venomous but has enlarged back fangs. THey however are not connected to any venom gland.

I was bitten several times and had no envenomation. All literature I read suggests that they are non venomous.

There is more pictures and information on our website on these and other snakes. THe English part is still under construction.
Check the German part for pictures. THe english part should be up in a day or two.

Here another nice picture.

They are beautifull snakes.
They sure resemble a Boomslang (ssp. kivuensis) dont they ?

I was very, very carefull when handling them in the beginning.
