Not your normal Okee?

btorgy Sep 13, 2006 09:36 AM

Hey all!
I have this male Okeetee that has a lot of red as his background color. These pics don't quite catch it. I know his black margins aren't that great, but could he be considered a Sunkissed Okee? He was sent to the store I bought him from with a shipment of Okeetee's, and I got to look at them all. I did get a gorgeous female, great color and black margins. But this guy was so nice and colorful that I couldn't pass him up! Would it be not a good idea to breed him to my female, and should I be looking for a better quality male?
Here's two shots of the male:

About breeding these two, there is a show coming up at the end of the month, and I keep debating on looking for a better male. I'm just running low on space.
Help me out please!!!

Sunkissed corns are the result of being homozygous for the "sunkissed" gene. Sunkissed cannot and should not be applied to an okeetee that is carrying regular Hypo A, or an okeetee that just happens to have thinner borders.

Your snake does not look like a sunkissed to me. Unless it proves homozygous for the gene, I'd say you've got a case of VPN* syndrome. It seems to be contagious of late.

OK I know nothing on "sunkiss" corns. but I knew I read something about how they effect the okeetee.

"One meaning of SUNKISSED is a synonym for SUNGLOW. The other, more common one is the name for second HYPOMELANISTIC gen that was discovered, which is also called HYPOMELANISTIC OKEETEE. They have a slightly different look and a typical, destroyed head pattern."

Again, I'm not debating anything. Just trying to learn on this one. But it appears there are extreme differnt views on sunkissed to okeetees?

Tom,
Sunkissed and sunglow are not the same thing no matter what the Germans say. I have both--they are definitely different. Most obvious is head shape and temperment!!! These little sunkissed critters are always alert and ever ready to bite heck out of you. You can get the skinny on these on Serpenco's (can I say that????) site and Kathy Love's site. Tom, you gotta get a copy of Cornsnake Morphs. It's a great guide!!!!! BTW-- if you pass through Austin while in Tx you are more than welcome to stop by for a visit!!!

The reference was to the second part. Not the same as sunglow.

And thank you for the invite. I may have to go on a trip just to meet people. I have a pile of ebay people to see too. I have flown to Austin, as it is usually cheaper.

This year and last too, have been insane, both kids going to college, workers comp issues, weird work complications, etc etc etc. Oh 3 cars out of 4 on total break down. So it was a year of a bit more tight budget. At least for me, not my daughter. lol
