Hatchling alterna

MikeMurphy Sep 13, 2006 06:33 PM

Here are couple of shots of some hatchling Juno Road alterna. These are from two clutches laid this year by a pair of alterna phase Juno's. The adults are pretty standard looking alterna phase (although the female is really nice and light) but every year their offspring run the gamut from Blair's to alterna. The intermediate looking one hatched today from a clutch of 8 that just started to hatch. The Blair's phase and alterna phase both hatched about 2.5 months ago. I think I'm keeping the intermediate phase; I really like that one.

the head of that one alterna has a "domed" shape. Is that an accurate picture? Does anyone else have feedback on Domed Shaped alterna heads?

Thanks,

Steven

Actually, that's just the way the photo looks. I think it's the way the flash reflected off the snake's head. It's a perfect little animal.
