under weight ball python

Savannahblue Sep 13, 2006 09:05 PM

My Ball Python is underweight. he is about 3-4 mounths old. usually feeds on 1 large mouce once a week. he's not severly underweight just a little thin. how do i "beef" him up to a healthy captuve ball size. do i feed him twice a week? or once a week with 2 mice? or what? and... is it ok to feed him while he's in shed?

Mine started on mice, smalls at first, then mediums and now is on rat pup's. She has been eating every 5 days but she has only filled out when she was switched to rats. I have read a lot about the pro's and cons of rats over mice ( namely mice eaters are thiner than rat eaters ). Mine really took to the rats in a big way so I think I was lucky as I had no problems switching over. So for me I think that to get some weight on you really should switch to rats, aim for rats that are slightly smaller than her girth and try every 5 days rather than once a week.

Hope it helps
