Hello World

scott pasqua Sep 13, 2006 10:26 PM

I have been hatching lots of Redfoots this year and most have been hatched via an incubator.

I know I have missed clutches in my yard because most of the ones I found were just sheer luck catching the females laying.

Lately I have been finding hatchlings wandering around the yard, and today I found one near my fence and it was near a 2" hole.

Well lo and behold I stuck my finger in the hole and felt movement!

Hatching tortoise never gets old but this is just an awesome site.
Three shells were found in the nest, the exact # of babies I found today!

Sorry about posting pics in multiple messeges.I am not too computer literate.

How special! Thank you so much for sharing these pictures!
Where do you live? Is this the first year you experience this,- maybe because of an extra hot summer that made it possible to reach adequate incubation temperatures?
Good luck with the babies!

Hi,

So far I found about 6 or 7 in the yard this year. Actually the first one was found by my neighbor in his yard!.

I have hatched out tortoises before and have found them wandering in my yard after hatching, but this was just too awesome finding the actual nest.

I live in South Florida.
Tons of rain, super hot and it even gets down into the 40's sometimes during our "freezing" winters.he he

Mother nature is amazing.

Thanks for the comments.

Great pictures. It must have been fantastic watching them emerge from the soil.
