Rescue needs your advice

dragoninthemist Sep 13, 2006 11:57 PM

Hey guys! So, I run a small reptile rescue here in Washington, and as many rescues start, we have a mismatch of cages all over our home. We have begun looking to condense our critters to one wall, looking at stackable cages.
However, I don’t know where to start. We don’t have much money (what rescue does?), and we’re looking for something that can hold all sorts of critters, from Leopard Geckos to Cornsnakes to well, whatever crawls, hops or slithers through our door.
I couldn’t find a collection of links, so maybe you could tell me who you suggest and why?
I’d love to get something used, as I’ve heard that’s the way to go. Sadly, there isn’t any avalible in our area.

Raven,

I used to do a lot of resuce. I would use lidless racks for any animal that can be kept in them. They save a ton on space and time and also stressed animals really seem to do well in them. I do not recommend putting rescued cornsnakes and leopard geckos, to use your example, in anything other than racks.

That will leave space for the various real cages and tubs you need for Iguanas, Monitors and turtles - those are the species I saw a lot of.

Racks are easy to build. I'm sure you could find somebody local to build them for you. Or you could take a cut list to a local cabinet shop and just assemble the rack yourself.

for ideas and modifications for your usage. You can make racks to fit just about any flat topped tub. I agree with Chris, go lidless if you can. You can always keep the lids nearby if you need to use the tub to transport/rearrange etc.
