O.K. I am calling on the alterna gods to help me find the background info on these snakes. I bought them from the Amazon Reptile Center in So Cal. I know that some of you must know who breed them or some info on them. Also does this person have any more? I can't wait to see what these produce next year. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Dan

Dan,
I would say that those animals are from Dan Coffee. He lives in hesperia close to Bob Montoya and Dave Long.I have seen his animals and they are just that.He has some that are screaming orange also but with the zig zag pattern.
They are basically generics but Bob claims they are from the langtry area many many moons ago.
I was going to say I would bring Dan over to your booth next weekend but you will be gone huh.
Anyway,Have a great trip and talk with you later.

I just visited with Dan C. this weekend and he told me those snakes are a lineage derived from a mix of Black Gap x Panther Junction (yes, that's right) mutted up by Keith Carlson and Scott Selstad back in the early 1990's. They are (you guessed it)...pure mutts.

Viva los pinches perros.

These snakes are insane to me and should throw some sweet babies, sory boys but I will be breeding mutts next year, I have produced some insane mutts. I know locale is preferred but you have to work with what you have. I will have locale langtry light and dark that I caught, and I have a great pair of 277 and Juno, but I will still work with my generic alterna. Alterna kick ass one way or another, but there is no need for name calling.

Take it easy there, Dan. I apologize for inadvertantly offending you. I sure didn't intend to step on your interests with my off-the-cuff comments. I hope you continue to enjoy your snakes and working with them. As a matter of fact, Dan Coffey has new hatchlings of that lineage right now. Maybe you can contact him and see what he has. Again, sorry.

Most of the people here who know me, know that I am just kidding, Shannon and others make fun of my fancy generics. I am used to it and I do not take offense.

...I just wanted to set things right. Far be it from me to denegrate someone else's interests. I must say that that lineage of snakes are the most unusual that I've ever seen. When it comes down to it, they are derived from two Brewster County, TX populations that are not all that distant from one another within a fairly contiguous range. The oddity of pattern must be influenced from the Black Gap founder. I saw the Panther Junction female founder, which was a pretty Blairi morph with bold alternates. I think I still have an old 35mm print of that snake...

Cheers,
Bob

Bob
I never had Black gap animals to breed to panthers so I could never had made those mutts. I'm not sure where you got that info, but it's way wrong. Also Scott never had anything to do with the breeding of panther animals. The orignals animals got all mixed up by other people and that strain is lost for good.

...I didn't know anything about all this until I visited with Dan Coffey two weeks ago. He told me the supposed origin of the strain he still has going. I only remember your wild female and her offspring. Sorry for the misinformation. Whatever the current strain's actual origin is remains unknown I guess, but they are very unusual (and pretty, too).
